For a coffee lover, there’s something about sitting down to enjoy freshly brewed coffee that becomes a reason to celebrate. Altitude Coffee Lab allows you to do just that; the roastery is known for its wonderful organic coffee and skilled baristas who produce premium coffee drinks. The quaint cafe is filled with wonderful coffee smells during the roasting process and offers a relaxing view of a nearby lake. Altitude is properly named for recognizing the importance each altitude has on the profile of coffee bean grown there. Altitude Coffee Lab educates about different coffee tastes and methods of brewing, making the cafe a favorite spot for true coffee connoisseurs.

Opened in 2013 by Paul Musikanth and Craig Matthew, they partnered with longtime customer Ori Eisen and Clint Coonfer to add new strengths to the business. Their mission is to make their customer’s coffee experience the best each time they visit. Using organic coffee beans, which are roasted on premise and never kept longer than six days, gives each cup the freshest and smoothest taste.

“From bean to roast to cup no more than six days so there’s no need for sugar,” Ori says.

Intense training is given to ensure each barista knows how to make the variety of coffee drinks using different methods. Skill is needed to not overheat the milk to create the proper sweetness each and every time.

Food items and pastries are available as well as a selection of teas. They’ve recently added evening hours with entertainment three nights a week serving beer, wine and other spirits.

A quaint coffee shop in town was started by former Olympic athletes Steven Lewis and Mitchell Watt in July 2015 and offers a relaxing atmosphere serving delicious coffee drinks and food items.

“We’re a small coffee shop that offers big flavor,” general manager Jeff Lynn says. “We strive to make each visit a unique coffee experience.”

Maverick sources their beans from multiple big-name roasters along with their seasonal espresso from Ritual Coffee. Their house espresso, Mav Mid, is a medium roast blend that combines delightfully with syrups. The list of flavors is simple: vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, caramel, hazelnut and dark chocolate. The pumpkin spiced latte and white peppermint mocha are their most popular fall and winter drinks.

In addition to espresso, Maverick offers multiple manual brewing methods: V60, Chemex, French press and AeroPress. And for tea lovers, they offer a variety of loose-leaf options for both hot and iced configurations. Some of their most refreshing options are the specialty iced white tea, which consists of white ambrosia, coconut and pineapple, as well as the golden matcha latte with honey and turmeric.

Sweet treats include freshly baked muffins, cinnamon rolls and coffee cake. Breakfast is served all day and the smashed avocado toast is a winner. Homemade soups, potato and ham quiche and salmon cakes are also wonderful menu items not to be missed.

Opened in August 2016, Scoop and Joy has become a local favorite as owner Remzi Kaval has taken the favorite scoops of life and brought them under one roof serving delicious coffee drinks, a wide assortment of teas and yummy ice cream.

For coffee, Kaval uses a Columbian roasted dark, classic mix. In addition to all the classic coffee drinks, you’ll find house favorites like raspberry mocha, Nutella latte and chai tea latte.

“The grinding of the coffee is an art and produces the main taste of the coffee,” Remzi says. “A couple extra seconds can change the taste as the water stays too long when the grinds are too fine, making the coffee bitter.”

Remzi grew up in village in Turkey bearing the same name with seven brothers and four sisters. Even though he played professional table tennis for 18 years, he always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

“As a kid, I dreamed someday I’d have a business that would be filled with happiness, but didn’t know what kind of business it would be,” he say. “My dream came true as you can’t be sad when eating ice cream.”

You’ll find a large selection of flavors of Lappert’s Hawaii premium ice cream to choose from. This exquisitely delicious artesian ice cream has no eggs, no whipped cream, no food coloring and is low in calories.

Other food items offered are homemade pastries, Remzi’s famous ricotta cheesecake and made-to-order sandwiches using sourdough bread, croissants or English muffins.
