James Beard Foundation To Hold Fifth Anniversary Taste America Culinary Tour

The James Beard Foundation is pleased to announce the fifth anniversary year of the Taste America national culinary tour. The cross-country program will heat up this fall in 10 dynamic culinary destinations including Phoenix.

This weekend-long Taste America program will feature a welcome reception at Fox Restaurant Concepts’ Little Cleo’s Seafood Legend at The Yard on September 21. Kathy Wills Elected New Chair of Scottsdale Art Board 
of Trustees

Banking executive Kathy Wills has been elected as the new chair of the Scottsdale Arts Board of Trustees. The nonprofit serves as the primary arts organization for the city of Scottsdale, bringing a diverse variety of multidisciplinary arts experiences and educational programs to the community through its three acclaimed divisions— Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) and Scottsdale Public Art—as well as destination events such as Canal Convergence and the Scottsdale Arts Festival.

A Scottsdale native, Kathy is senior vice president and private banker at MidFirst Bank, where she manages a team that serves clients and their businesses in wealth planning, investment management, customized lending, private trusts and private banking services.

She is also active with Arizona Business Leadership, serves on the Scottsdale Community College Presidents Advisory Committee, was a board member of Cortney’s Place and has been auxiliary board chair of Fresh Start Women’s Foundation.

Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council Receives $1.6 Million Matching Gift From

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation has issued a $1.6 million matching challenge to the Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council to help complete its $18 million Campaign for Girls in Arizona. The foundation will match all donations received between now and December 31, dollar-for-dollar, up to $1.6 million.

“The goal of Campaign for Girls is to provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to more girls throughout the state, including those who come from underserved communities,” Tamara Woodbury, CEO of GSACPC, says. “Our new center is a testament to what we stand for. Eddie Merlot’s Welcomes New Management and Executive Chef

Eddie Merlot’s, located in Silverstone at Pinnacle Peak, is pleased to introduce three of its newest family members. Tim Christman is the new general manager at Eddie Merlot’s. He has been working in the food and beverage industry for more than 30 years and has spent the last 15 years working as a senior manager and food and beverage director at fine dining and hotel venues throughout the United States.

Orestis Poulos is the new assistant manager. He was born in Greece and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He has worked in the food and beverage industry for more than 25 years in various locations around the world in hotels, private clubs and restaurants, most recently at the Desert Highlands Golf Club.

Robert Seymour is the new executive chef. He was born in Scottsdale and raised in Long Island, New York.  He attended the Art Institute of Phoenix where he earned his culinary arts degree. He has appeared on cooking segments with ABC, Fox and CBS.
