Valley residents searching for a new exercise method to kick off the new year with will find exactly what they’re looking for in HYPOXI. HYPOXI is a unique training method that was founded in 1997 by a sports scientist in Austria, and has since expanded into more than 50 countries. The first Arizona location opened in 2015, in Scottsdale. Another one followed in January 2016 at the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix.
According to Jeff Stokes, Vice President of HYPOXI USA, franchise opportunities are also now available, which is part of a planned expansion of HYPOXI within the U.S., and eventually Canada.
“The HYPOXI-Method combines three core elements: low-impact exercise, nutrition coaching, as well as advanced vacuum and compression technology,” says Judi Merrick, Senior Director of Marketing for the company. “This unique combination of exercise, nutrition and technology enables you to target stubborn fat and reduce cellulite, naturally.”
Inside each HYPOXI studio are three different exercise machines. The machine you use depends on the specific areas where you want to target your fat loss. For example, guests can choose to work out on an upright or recumbent bike for targeting hips, thighs, bum and lower stomach. Or, they can choose to work out on a treadmill while wearing a patented suit and hooked up to a HYPOXI machine for targeting the stomach and love handle areas.
Each HYPOXI training session lasts 30 minutes and includes one-on-one coaching with a certified HYPOXI Trainer. For best results, and based on your fitness goals, it is recommended you use HYPOXI three times a week for one to three months. Similar to personal training, HYPOXI customers can purchase session packages, which reach as low as $29 per session.
To accelerate results, guests can also combine HYPOXI-Training with Dermology. This is a passive treatment which helps reduce the appearance of cellulite, boost circulation and tone and tighten skin. It is a relaxing 20-minute session in a private room complete with soothing music and soft lighting.
HYPOXI is great for just about everyone. Whether you want to lose fat in specific stubborn areas or you simply prefer low-impact exercise, the HYPOXI-Method is science-proven to get results. On average, customers lose six to ten inches in as little as four weeks. In fact, independent studies have shown the HYPOXI-Method to be up to three times more effective at targeted fat burn than traditional exercise alone.
Although HYPOXI customers may see results quickly, it is not a magical permanent fat loss solution. To that end, customers are coached on healthy eating and active living.
“HYPOXI is a tool in your pocket,” says Merrick. “We not only ensure that customers get results using the HYPOXI-Method, but also provide education on how to live a happier, healthier lifestyle.”

Healthy HYPOXI Tips
To maintain a healthy weight and avoid bloating, stay away from starchy carbs at nighttime. Instead try a healthy fat, protein or soothing caffeine-free tea.
Always avoid drinking your calories. Stick to water or unsweetened tea. At restaurants, ask your server to not bring the “bottomless chips or bread” when you sit down.
My healthy trick at any restaurant is to always have water with at least three lemon wedges. Drink at least two glasses before eating your meal. This helps prevent overeating and reduces cravings for less healthy options or dessert.
Eight habits of people who always stay fit: 1. Exercise – even if it’s only for 15 minutes in your own home. 2.) Invest in a FitBit, Jawbone or other fitness tracker. 3.) Mix up your routine. 4.) Don’t wait for an occasion to get in shape. 5.) Eat real food. 6.) Keep weeknight drinking to a minimum. 7.) Focus on how you want to feel rather than how you want to look. 8.) Get more sleep.
Get to know the healthy restaurants and services in the areas of town you frequent. Prepared meal and delivery services like Sunfare can be a lifesaver when you are too busy to cook yourself. My favourite restaurants with healthy options are: Chop House, Pita Jungle, Freshbox, Hiro’s Sushi, True Food Kitchen and Whole Foods seafood counter.
Practice mindful eating 1. Look at your food. Be aware of the portions and what foods you have on your plate. 2.) Take one bite at a time, chewing slowly and enjoying every bite. 3.) Notice the flavors and textures of the food as you chew. 4.) Focus on the act of eating. Dine at a table, sitting down, without a TV, mobile phone or other distractions.
My favorite healthy snack on-the-go is the Protein Bistro Box at Starbucks. A hard-boiled egg, apples, grapes, cheese, peanut butter and a little pita. There seems to always be a Starbucks near me, and the Protein Plate has a good mix of proteins, fats and carbs.
