Celebrating at the Sixth Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships

Like a refreshing gust of wind, a certain change comes over North Scottsdale each fall for just one day. Like clockwork, the Sixth Annual Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships will return once again to West World of Scottsdale on November 5, 2016, promising an extravaganza brimming with the best of sports, entertainment, fashion and culture.

At the helm of this most lavish lifestyle event is Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championship owner Jason Rose, who took ownership of the event six years ago after being approached by a local polo club.

“That very first year we just had a couple thousand people show up with some DJs and local polo clubs playing each other,” says Rose. “But it was a blast, and we thought we were on to something really special. Now, six years later, we’re the most attended polo event in the United States.”

Boasting an impressive four matches throughout the day, the event draws some of the most lauded names in polo to the Valley. Among them, defending champions Aspen Valley Polo Club and America’s #1 ranked polo player, Nic Roldan.

“When you have some of the top players in the world at the event, and you see how good they are, it just becomes such an incredibly entertaining sport,” says Rose.

Although spectators may come for the sport, they stay for the celebration, as there is truly something for everyone—from field-side day clubs and musical performances; to fashion presentations and the beloved Canine Couture show; to classics like the 2017 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show and Barrett-Jackson 2017 Collector Car Auction previews.

“We really wanted to turn this into a lifestyle event, so we experimented with things like fashion shows, live art auctions and exotic car displays,” says Rose. “We are always trying to give people something new to see and do.”

This year, a host of new activities will extend the party well into the evening, with the Women’s Sunset Polo Match, a Cultural Concert, and, to end the evening with a bang, a most spectacular fireworks display.

As Rose puts it, “There’s a lot worse things in the world than watching polo, listening to a vibrant constellation of music, staring at the McDowell Mountains as the sun sets and getting ready for fireworks.”
