18|8 Salon is the Perfect Way to Spoil Dad for Any Occasion
Dad may not always be one to say it out loud, but sometimes he just wants to be pampered a bit.
Fortunately for him, and for men all across North Scottsdale, 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon has opened its doors and is ready to redefine the old barbershop experience.
The company’s name stems from a discovery made in the early 1900s, which found that adding 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel to steel eliminated the tendency for it to oxidize and rust. Not only did the resulting steel look better, it also performed better. From that, the idea of “what was ordinary, became extraordinary” was adopted as 18|8 Salons’ core mission as they first started opening shops in California over a decade ago, seeking to help men transform themselves to look, feel and perform their best.
“I was looking for something that would allow me to get closer to my customers, and really deliver something unique to them,” explains David Doederlein, who was introduced to 18|8 early last year after a long corporate career with PetSmart and Best Buy.
Once he decided it was time to be his own boss, Doederlein sought the advice of a franchise coach to help him find the right fit.
“I really only had two criteria. First, I wanted to do something that was not being done and that was really new and unique, and secondly, I wanted to be first to the market. Through that, I found 18|8 and knew I wanted to help bring this concept to Arizona customers.”
After the whirlwind of finding a location and transforming it into a one-of-a-kind luxury salon for men, 18|8 officially opened in January of this year. Now, not only do men have a place where they can get a haircut, shave and coloring treatment like they used to get at a barber, but can also receive an array of other services, including waxing, manicures, pedicures and facials.
An impressive selection of services means nothing, however, unless the staff is able to execute it all at a high-level, while at the same time fostering a genuine and relaxing atmosphere for the client. At 18|8, the staff is hand-picked to ensure that they can put the needs of the customer first. Each staff member has experience ranging anywhere from 5-24 years, yet all are retrained using a method adopted by 18|8 to help ensure every customer leaves feeling confident, knowing that they will get an amazing haircut each and every time.
The staff also has an extended knowledge of the specialty retail products 18|8 offers to keep men looking their best in between visits, including brands such as American Crew, Griff’s and Reuzel.
“I would say a typical man who would be interested in 18|8 is a man who is interested in looking his best, feeling his best and performing his best, and also one that enjoys getting pampered and feeling great after taking the time out of his day to receive a truly unique and customized experience,” says Doederlein.
“We don’t do a 10-minute cut. The people who come in here are the people who appreciate the fact that we take the time to make sure that they leave looking and feeling their best.”
